Hingvastak Churna

Hingvastak ChurnaHingvastak churna is an ancient Ayurvedic remedy used for increasing digestion and relieving disturbances in the gut. This Vata-reducing digestive aid will decrease unwanted symptoms such as gas, bloating, cramping, belching, hiccups, gurgling, pain in the abdomen and constipation. Hingvastak is used as a digestive enzyme due to its ability to enhance digestion, increase absorption of nutrients and burn away toxins.

Hingvastak should be avoided during pregnancy and avoided for those with high Pitta or excessive heat in the body.


Add 1-2 tsp. of Hingvastak to any dish, preferably during the cooking process. It is most recommended to sauté this spice mixture in ghee or oil before adding to a dish, as this will enhance the flavor. The amount needed will vary depending on the size of the dish and the pallet of the individual. Play around with a smaller amount to begin (1 tsp) and add more as desired.

Alternatively, Hingvastak can be taken mixed in honey, 30 minutes before each meal. For this method, take 1/2 tsp of Hingvastak and mix with 1-2 tsp of honey. Wash down with warm water.
