- 1 tsp Organic Ghee
- Pinch of ginger powder
- 1 Tbsp of honey
Directions
In a small pot, heat the milk, ghee and water to a low boil. Add the Shatavari and ginger powder. Continue to heat on low, partially covered, until the liquid is reduced to half (one cup will remain). Let the milk cool to a drinkable temperature (about 110 degrees), and then add the honey to taste. Drink this every night before bedtime for hormonal regulation, rejuvenation, and overall female health.
Thank you for reminding me the health benefits of Shatavari!.. I used to consume this when I was 10-12 years.. Now the availability of the organic root is almost impossible!
Hi Priya,
Thank you for writing in! If you are looking for a reliable source of organic Shatavari I have some recommendations. You can purchase the powder or the whole root (cut and sifted) from Mountain Rose Herbs. The powder is also available from Banyan Botanicals. These are very high quality sources and I recommend them fully! Please let me know if you have any questions!
Namaste,
Danielle
Dear Danielle, thank you for sharing your Ayurveda knowledge with the world. Your website is a very helpful source for me in my own Ayurveda journey. I’ve been reading a lot about shatavari and I would love to try using it daily for my overall female health. I see that you recommend to take it before bedtime, but as a vata person with every now and then constipation issues I would also love to incorporate triphala in my daily routine. I read that this herb for this reason can also best be taken before going to bed. Can I take both herbs daily before going to bed? Thanks for your help
Hi Kyra,
Thank you for your question! The Triphala can be taken along side the Shatavari, as long as you are not taking the Shatavari in milk (or almond milk, etc). Triphala is made of three fruits and therefore should never be taken in the same timeframe as any other food types (including dairy and nut milks). If you wish to take the Shatavari with milk, you can drink this before bed and take the Triphala first thing in the morning, on an empty stomach, and wait at least 30 minutes to take in food.
Please let me know if you have any further questions and I will be happy to help!
Namaste,
Danielle
Dear Danielle
Can men take Shatavri?
I have Irritable Bowel Syndrome causing indigestion, gas, constipation and anxiety for almost 20 years. I consider myself with a vitiated vata and pitta of high degree. For last 6-7 months, I have been getting gurgling sounds in stomach, a bit bleeding gums, excessive hairfall, etc. giving me signs of imbalanced pitta. My past history of sinus makes me vulnerable to kapha imbalance too. I have taken Ashwagandha tablets for three years continuously and then stopped in 2019 as it wasnt that effective in curing anxiety. I would like to try Shatavri for balancing my Pitta and also Vata if possible. Do you recommend that I give it a try and what dosage, if I go for tablets form?
